Week 39-Baby is the size of a WATERMELON!

WEEK 39! Woo hoo! I never thought I'd make it this far!!! But I am proud of myself that I am able to carry a baby this long, and remain healthy still.  At my weekly appointment, I was dilated to 1.5cm, which was progress from last week! But she was still very high and has not dropped into the birth canal yet.  Doctor is worried that she may be too big to fit through the birth canal so he has scheduled an ultrasound to measure her weight.  Hoping I don't make it to that appointment! :)

Week 37-Baby is FULL TERM!!!

I can't believe we are in the final weeks!!! I am SO ready to meet our baby girl!!! We went to the doctor today and it seems like Ellie is perfectly content staying where she is.  While my cervix is softening, I am not dilated and she's still pretty high.  I, originally, was really discouraged and bummed about this report.  But I've accepted that she obviously is not ready to come out and she will come when she's ready! Hopefully she has her mom and dad's punctuality! :-)

I've been getting quite uncomfortable these days.  My back has started to hurt, my hips hurt, and sleep just isn't coming as easily as is used to.  I've been trying to walk every day, hoping that will maybe get her movin! No such luck.

This past weekend we had maternity pictures.  I really debated if I should even have these photos taken.  But, I have really enjoyed this experience and I truly feel beautiful and wanted to capture that! These are a few of the previews.

My amazing mom and future Grandma O'Hollaren!

My friend Liz has an amazing camera and asked if she could take some pictures of me while we were at a wedding.  I was so pleased! This has been such an amazing experience and I am so glad I've documented my growth throughout it! I have maternity pictures with Emily Hannon Photography this Friday.

So excited for the next couple of weeks! Next doctor's appointment is on Monday! :-)

Week 33-Baby is the size of a PINEAPPLE!!!

We made it to week 33! Hard to believe I will be full term in just 4 weeks! We are getting even MORE excited to meet sweet Ellie as the days go by! Her room is almost completely finished and the nesting phase has begun! I find myself wanting to clean everything, but having the energy to clean nothing! Haha.
This past Saturday we had the Baby Shower for my family.  It was a great day filled with yummy food, good conversation and just an overall celebration of Ellie's upcoming arrival.  We also took an infant feeding and care class this past week.  We learned how to change a diaper (Josh did it under 7 seconds!), how to swaddle her, and all about breast feeding! It was fun!

This week, she weighs about 5.8 pounds and measures about 18.7 inches. And she may grow up to a full inch this week -- amazing. She is able to keep her eyes open while she's awake, she's begun to coordinate breathing while swallowing, and her bones have begun to harden!

Week 30-Baby is the size of a CUCUMBER!!!!!

YAY! Made it to 30 weeks! I never thought I'd make it to 30 weeks! Can't believe only 8 weeks 'til full term.  It's absolutely crazy! Not a lot of new things to report this week. I'm feeling more pregnant than ever! Sleeping is still very hard.  I've retreated to getting sick at nighttime, due to the unbearable heartburn! Thinking I have two more months of this is sometimes overwhelming.  I just want to meet my baby girl already!!!

This week, she's about 17 inches and weighs about 4 pounds!! Her skin is starting to smooth out, be less wrinkly! But, her brain is getting MORE wrinkly to make room for all that essential brain tissue! She's now strong enough to grasp a finger! Cannot wait until it's MY finger she's grasping!

This past week, was my first baby shower! It was absolutely wonderful! So many wonderful people came to show their love for Josh, Ellie and I! :-)

This upcoming weekend I have another shower with my friends in Yakima! Cannot wait to see all my friends from the East side of the state! :-)

Week 29-Baby is the size of a SQUASH!!!!

This week has been fairly uneventful.  I have started having difficulty sleeping.  If I'm not waking up three times to pee, I have awful heartburn, or leg cramps, or am way too hot to get comfortable. Mid-day naps are becoming more frequent! Still feeling good, and trying to enjoy this experience!

How far along? 29 Weeks

Maternity clothes? Yes, love my maternity jeans!
Stretch marks? No
Sleep: All of a sudden, sleep sucks!  I have to pee constantly, am hot, or have terrible heartburn!

Labor Signs: No
Symptoms: Heartburn, rib pain (which has been getting better!) and overall lack of mobility - i know, it's only gonna get worse.
Belly Button in or out? Still flat
Wedding rings on or off? On

Happy or Moody most of the time: So unbelievably happy!!! I cannot wait to meet her!
Looking forward to: My first baby shower on Sunday.  Cannot wait!

Baby already measures about 16.7 inches long. Right now, she weighs about 3.8 pounds but she's still got a ways to go -- can you believe she'll triple in weight before birth? The other day Josh said, "Your belly isn't going to get much bigger will it?" I said, "Uh, ya! She's supposed to triple in size, which means I will triple in size!" Haha. Can't imagine getting much bigger! I felt Ellie getting the hiccups this week! She gets them at least once a day! Makes me smile! :-)

Week 28-Baby is the size of a head of CAULIFLOWER!!!

Can't believe it's week 28 already! I say this every week but they are absolutely flying by now.  Daddy Josh painted Ellie's room this week and it looks amazing! I just go sit in her room sometimes (creepy, I know) and try to imagine her being in her crib.  It feels so surreal!

This past week, I went down to Beaverton, OR to see a Perinatologist (a OB/GYN who specializes in high risk pregnancies).  Having gestational diabetes classifies me as "high risk".  We need to monitor baby closely to make sure she isn't gaining too much weight.  While down there, I learned so much about what causes gestational diabetes and further learned that this is not my fault and there was nothing I could do to prevent it.  The doctor was very impressed with my blood sugar levels since the diagnosis.  I simply cut out regular soda, and that seemed to be enough.  Doctors were also very pleased with Ellie's progress.  She is measuring right on track and was only in the 34th percentile for abdomen (which is what they'll really be watching).  While getting my ultrasound, I asked the technician if they did 3D.  She said they did, and I BEGGED her to see if Ellie would cooperate and show us her face! Boy did she cooperate! We could see her face PERFECTLY! It was by far the most emotional point in my pregnancy.  She looked exactly like me, with Josh's nose! I instantly fell in love with this little person that I've never met.  She's absolutely perfect! These 84 days are going to drag on!

This week, she's just working on gaining weight.  All the major organs and features are formed, she just needs to plump up! She's approximately 15 inches long and weighs close to 3 pounds.  This week, her lungs are mature enough that she could probably survive if for some reason she needed to come out.  But we're not ready for her yet!

Today is also Father's Day!  We spent the day by going to church this morning, eating a big brunch at home, taking a long nap, and watching golf.  It was an awesome day!

Week 27-Baby is the size of a RUTABAGA!!!

It's the home stretch!!! Can't believe the third trimester has begun already. This is going by SO fast. This is also the first week in our new house. We are absolutely thrilled!

This past week, I was unfortunately diagnosed with gestational diabetes.  I was completely shocked! I didn't have any of the risk factors.  But I'm confident that I'll be able to manage this with my diet.  It's been an interesting time learning how to test my blood sugar.  I  am not too fond of needles, but am getting the hang of it.

When you eat, your digestive system breaks most of your food down into a type of sugar called glucose. The glucose enters your bloodstream and then, with the help of insulin (a hormone made by your pancreas), your cells use the glucose as fuel. However, if your body doesn't produce enough insulin – or your cells have a problem responding to the insulin – too much glucose remains in your blood instead of moving into the cells and getting converted to energy. When you're pregnant, hormonal changes can make your cells less responsive to insulin. For most moms-to-be, this isn't a problem: When the body needs additional insulin, the pancreas dutifully secretes more of it. But if your pancreas can't keep up with the increased insulin demand during pregnancy, your blood glucose levels rise too high, resulting in gestational diabetes.

Being in the new house is fantastic! We have decided on a paint color and are going to start painting Ellie's room this week!  We bought her bedding and Daddy Josh put it on her crib.  I love it!
Can't believe in 13 weeks, she'll be sleeping in this bed! We cannot wait!! :)

Week 25-Baby is the size of an EGGPLANT!!

I'm officially two thirds of the way through my pregnancy!!!! This week has been pretty good.  I had my 1 hour glucose test, which was higher than doc wanted.  So, I go back on Friday to do the test for 3 hours.  Not looking forward to that, but understand we need to make sure I'm processing sugar the correct way.

This week has also brought some more excitement...we are closing on our first house!!!!!
This is the PERFECT house for us! I am so excited to be able to bring Ellie home to our own home.  So, hopefully by this weekend, we will be all moved in and the nursery decorating can begin!

25 weeks means that if for some reason, I had to give birth, Ellie would be OK.  (Even though I cannot wait to snuggle her, she needs to stay in there for a while longer.) This week, her eyes are beginning to open.  I've read that I can put a flashlight up to my tummy and she'll try to move away from it.  Daddy Josh says that's not nice, but I may try it! Haha.  She's currently about 14 inches long and weighs 2 pounds.  She's not out of room yet, but my belly button is flattening out so she's quickly running out of room in there! :-)

How far along? 25 Weeks
Total weight gain: Still minus 12!
Maternity clothes? Oh Yes!
Stretch marks? A couple on my hips.
Sleep: Some nights are better than others.
Best moment this week: Learning we are closing on our house this week!

Anything making you queasy or sick: Haven't been sick in a while! YAY!
Gender: sweet baby girl

Labor Signs: Braxton hicks contractions
Belly Button in or out?
 Flat
Wedding rings on or off? On

Happy or Moody most of the time: So incredibly happy!!!!
Looking forward to: Moving into our house!!!!

Week 23-Baby is the size of a GRAPEFRUIT!!!

Well, another week has gone by.  This has been a fairly uneventful week.  Still not getting sick, which is amazing.  I'm still trying to be active, playing golf 3 times this week.  I've had a wonderful time helping coach the Mark Morris Girl's Golf team.

Baby Ellie is the size of a Grapefruit this week.  She's about 11.8 inches long and weighs about 20.8 ounces.  Her face is fully formed. She can now hear my voice, my heartbeat, and my stomach growling.  We've started putting headphones on my belly, getting her used to music! :-)

This past weekend was my first Mother's Day.  Josh bought me an amazing card, and a baby girl charm for my charm bracelet. It was an amazing day spent with both of our moms! :)
We have a doctor's appointment this week! Can't wait to start getting her room ready!

Week 21-Baby is the size of a BANANA!!!!!

This week was another monumental one! Daddy Josh got to feel Ellie kicking! It was by far the most amazing moment! Seeing the look in his eye when he finally felt her was so emotional! Up until now, it's kind of just been me and Ellie...Josh, obviously, isn't the one that is going through the morning sickness, the leg pains, and the growing belly.  Now he feels more "a part" of the pregnancy and it has begun to feel very real for both of us!!! We cannot wait to meet her!

I've also started experiencing Braxton Hicks contractions.  I get one or 2 an hour at nighttime.  My stomach gets really hard in places, then relaxes again. I was reading my weekly updates and it described what BH contractions were and that I might be feeling them! I knew that's what's been happening!

Baby Ellie is now about 10.5 inches long and weighs about 12.2 ounces.  She's as long as a banana this week. I have been feeling LOTS of movement! Before, I would feel "flutters", occasionally.  Now it is definite kicks, that feel like I'm being flicked from the inside.  An indescribable feeling! She also, now, has her lifetime supply of eggs in her womb! Haha...hard to think about her being the size of a banana and having a womb with eggs! :)

I'm still feeling great.  Absolutely loving being pregnant, but also anxious for it to be over so she can be here!

Week 20-Baby is the size of a CANTALOUPE!!!

HALFWAY DONE!! Woo hoo!!!! Can't believe we're already at week 20! Feeling her move A LOT now.  When I get in bed to go to sleep, she is dancing like crazy! The other morning I thought I felt her from the outside, but when Josh put his hand on my tummy, she quit (stubborn like her daddy!).

Doctor's appointment last week went great.  I finally gained ONE POUND! Now I'm only down 13 from January.  Haha. Still feeling great.  The morning sickness, knock on wood, is over.  I can now wake up and not worry about getting sick.  That is a wonderful feeling.  I'm finally big enough now that people know I'm pregnant, not chubby and I get a lot of compliments on how cute my "bump" is.  At dinner the other night, our waitress asked if I was pregnant.  I instantly whipped out my iPhone to show her the ultrasound picture of Ellie! Josh and I both looked at eachother and said, "Oh no...we're already those parents and she's not even here yet!" The waitress was so sweet and said, "She's so cute!!" Haha.  We think so too!! :)

This week Ellie weighs about 10.2 ounces and measures about 6.5 inches. She's still got a lot of growing to do though. She has working taste buds and is gulping down several ounces of amniotic fluid per day.

Week 18-Baby is the size of a SWEET POTATO!!!!

This, by far has been the most exciting week of my pregnancy! We had our ultrasound to find out the sex of our baby.  It was so amazing just to be able to see it again.  Our ultrasound technician said with MUCH confidence that our baby is a......GIRL!!!!!! We are so excited to meet Eleanor "Ellie" Ruth Donaldson. It was so emotional to hear that I was having a daughter! My mind instantly went to all the amazing things I'll get to do with her.
She's about 5.6 inches long and about 6.7 ounces now and she keeps on growing rapidly. (That's why I'm probably feeling so hungry lately!)  I'm feeling a lot of movement now! It's such an amazing feeling. This week I really started to feel aches in my lower back, I assume because things are moving outward and putting pressure on my back. I invested in a body pillow (which Josh loves, hehe!) which is helping me sleep better at night.

Everyone is SO excited that we are having a girl.  Grandma O and I went on our first shopping trip for Ellie to the Carter's outlet.  Let's just say she'll already be the best dressed baby! We could not be happier and cannot wait for September to arrive!

Monumental Day.....

The day...well, one of the days....I've been waiting for came today. (I think).  I am pretty sure I felt the baby MOVE! Peole have said it feels like a "flutter"....well, mine felt more like a gas bubble low in my tummy that didn't make any noise. I'm still waiting for it to happen again...so I know that's for sure what it was.  I'm 18 weeks on Monday, so I should have felt it any day! YAY! There is actually a little person in there! So crazy! 6 days til we know if it's a boy or a girl!!!! I cannot wait! Once I know who is in there, and they have a name...this will all start to TRULY sink in.  :)

15 Weeeks-Baby is the size of a NAVEL ORANGE!!!!

Week 15!! It is starting to go by quickly now!!! :-)  These last two weeks since I've blogged have been eventful!

First, we decided to purchase a Fetal Doppler to use at home.  Since we didn't get to hear the heartbeat at the appointment last month, I really wanted to see if I could find it at home.  When it arrived last week, I was so excited when I found the heartbeat right away.  Since then I've been able to find it every day and it's been a steady 150-160 beats per minute.  That's VERY strong.  :-)  While I'm trying not to become obsessed, it's very comforting to hear it at night and know that everything is OK.

Yesterday, I experienced something I've been reading about...Round Ligament Pain.  While teaching 3rd grade, I was squatting down helping someone and when I stood up, I felt a sharp pain in my lower abdomen that literally took my breath away.  The round ligaments surround my uterus in my pelvis. As my uterus grows during pregnancy, the ligaments stretch and thicken to accommodate and support it. So when I move suddenly, I often can feel sharp jabs or pains.  I was so relieved, sort of, to read this was totally normal.

This week, the average fetus at 15 weeks weighs 2.5 ounces and measures 4 inches -- and their proportions are becoming even more normal, since their legs now outmeasure his arms. It might even be hiccuping in there. It's making lots of progress: the joints and limbs can all move now. :-)

It also said that the baby is moving like crazy, and I may be able to feel it soon.  I'm almost positive I felt it yesterday.  It's really hard when people just say it feels like a "flutter"! I was driving, with my cell phone in my front sweatshirt pocket, when I felt a little tickle and I thought it was my phone vibrating.  But when I looked at my phone, nothing had vibrated.  So, I'm thinking it was a kick, but we'll wait a few more weeks and hopefully those get more prominent.  :-)

Anyways, that's enough for now.  Doctor appointment on Thursday! :-)  3 weeks til we know if it's a boy or girl!!! :)

Monday, March 5, 2012

Week 13-Baby is the size of a PEACH!!!

FINALLY...I'm in the 2nd trimester!!! And already, I'm starting to feel better! More energy, less nausea, more appetite. Thank goodness!!! :-)

Baby, this week, is about 2.9 inches long and weighs about .81 ounces and proportion-wise -- the head's now about 1/3 the size of her body. This week baby's vocal chords are forming and so are its teeth.  Even though it's the size of a peach...there are fingerprints on this little fingers!!! Can't believe there's a little human inside me.  I CANNOT wait to be able to feel kicks and punches.  Also counting down the days til we know if we're having a baby boy or a baby girl!! We have to wait 5 more weeks!

Not a lot more to report! Everything is going great! :-)

Week 12-Baby is the size of a PLUM!!!

Well, week 12 is almost over and I have been so busy, I didn't get to update my chalkboard! So I'll make sure it's updated for week 13.

This week has been great.  I finally filled the prescription for the nausea medicine.  But when I take it, it puts me to sleep within 30 minutes.  So, obviously I'm only taking it at night.  And I haven't been sick for a couple of days.  Which is very exciting!! Hopefully with the 2nd trimester starting next week, this will completely go away.

The average fetus at 12 weeks is about 2.1 inches long and .49 ounces. Now that it has pretty much all its parts, its main job is to keep on growing!! Most of the critical systems are fully formed! She's about to enter the growth and maturation stage, in which her organs and tissues will grow and develop rapidly. She's now developing her reflexes -- if you poke her body, she'll likely move. She's opening and closing her fingers and curling her toes, too. Her brain is developing fast!

So, that's all for this week!! :) I'll be sure to update the chalkboard for next week!!
